The Fasnacht was this year was amazing!

Basler Fasnacht is the largest carnival in Switzerland, held annually in Basel. It starts on the Monday after Ash Wednesday at 4:00 AM with the "Morgestraich," when all city lights go out, and illuminated lanterns parade through the streets. The festival lasts exactly 72 hours and is famous for its unique mix of satire, music, and artistic expression. Participants, called "Fasnächtler," wear elaborate masks and costumes, playing piccolos and drums as they march in formations called "Cliques." Satirical floats and performers poke fun at politics, society, and current events through witty verse and artwork. "Guggenmusik" bands, playing loud and offbeat brass music, add to the vibrant atmosphere. Confetti, known as "Räppli," is thrown in massive amounts, especially at unsuspecting spectators. Traditional treats like "Mehlsuppe" (flour soup) and "Zwiebelwähe" (onion tart) are enjoyed during the festivities. Unlike other carnivals, Basler Fasnacht follows strict traditions and has a more artistic and intellectual character. It ends on Thursday morning at 4:00 AM, leaving the city in a surreal, post-carnival quietness.
